In recognition of Veterans Day, several events in Pennsauken this month honor those in our community that served our country in the armed forces.
Veterans Day Service And Luncheon At AMVETS Post
Members of VFW Post 1270 and AMVETS Post 101 will be holding a Veterans Day service on Monday, Nov. 11, 11:00 a.m., at AMVETS Post 101, located at 519 June Rd., in the Delair section of Pennsauken. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
County Veterans Day Ceremony On November 10
The Camden County Board of Freeholders, in conjunction with the Camden County Veterans Advisory Committee, cordially invite veterans and members of the community to attend a special ceremony to honor its men and women, past and present, who have faithfully served our nation.
Camden County’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be on Sunday, Nov. 10, 1:00 p.m., at Veterans Island at Cooper River Park on North Park Drive in Pennsauken.

Veterans Ceremony At Pennsauken High School
Pennsauken High School, located at 800 Hylton Rd., will hold a special ceremony for veterans on Monday, Nov. 11, from 8:15 to 10:00 a.m. In addition to a complimentary breakfast, the event features student essays about “What Veterans Day Means To Me;” and Mr. Bernie Henderson, a Vietnam veteran, will be the guest speaker. There will also be a special ceremony at the school’s Veterans Memorial. Area veterans and their spouses are invited to attend. Veterans Program At Pennsauken Library
The Pennsauken Free Public Library will be hosting a Veterans Day program on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Learn about and honor the contributions of America’s armed services veterans. Speakers include Emilio Roman, author of “101 Ways to Thank a Veteran,” and Bernie Kofoet, from F.W. Grigg American Legion Post 68. Featuring card writing to veterans, medal pining ceremony, POW-MIA memorial table, and more.
Information On Local Veterans Groups
Gross-Hollinshed VFW Post 1270 is located at 2324 Penn St. in Pennsauken. There are three qualifiers for membership in the VFW: U.S. Citizenship, honorable service in the armed forces, and having served in a “war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters.” Post meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month at 8:00 p.m. Auxiliary meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://vfw1270.org.
American Legion Fredrick W. Griggs Post 68 is one of the original posts in the American Legion Department of New Jersey. The group meets on the second Thursday of the month, 7:00 p.m. at the Merchantville Community Center, 212 Somerset Ave. All veterans who served during qualifying conflicts are welcome to join. The Post now has an Auxiliary Unit which also meets at 7:00 p.m. Any ladies who are the spouse or the daughter of a veteran are welcome to join. AMVETS Post #101 in Delair is located at 519 June Rd. Membership is open to all who served honorably in the military of the United States. The post’s monthly meeting is on the second Sunday at 11:00 a.m. They can be contacted by calling (856) 906-0213 or e-mailing Amvets101@gmail.com.
