Book And Tech Sale, Annual Raffle Kick Off This Month
By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library
If you haven’t had time to donate items for the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library’s upcoming book and tech sale, don’t fret. There’s still time to bring books, CDs and DVDs to the Library’s Community Room before Oct. 10.
Also, please consider donating some cupcakes, cookies, brownies or other tasty treats for the Friends to sell during this annual event. Call us at (856) 665-5959, ext. 7 to let us know what you’ll be bringing. Or easier still, just drop off your treats at our bake table in the lobby right before you go into the book and tech sale to browse.
This year’s annual book and tech sale is held at the Library from Oct. 16-18 during normal business hours.
Annual Tech Raffle Begins This Month
Don’t miss out on this year’s annual raffle; the Friends are giving away some super nifty prizes: a Microsoft Surface 3 Tablet, Nintendo 3DS XL Game Console, and FitBit with Heart Rate Monitor. Tickets are a real bargain at $2 a piece or three for $5. You’ll be able to buy yours during the book and tech sale, at the Friends’ table during the Pennsauken Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 10, or from any Friends member. The raffle drawing takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the Library lobby; and you need not be present to win.
Other October Events
The Friends are also sponsoring a wide variety of programs throughout the month of October. On Oct. 4 at 2:00 p.m., the Friends host the Samaritan Hospital program, “Think. Talk. Act.” Attendees will learn how to initiate family conversations about end-of-life concerns. Visitors to the Library can also learn all about philately – the collection of stamps and other postal materials as a hobby or investment – by attending “Knowledge through Books and Stamps,” our exciting and informative exhibit in collaboration with the Merchantville Stamp Club that will be on display in the Community Room from Oct. 24-30. This exhibit isn’t just for stamp aficionados, though. It’s guaranteed to appeal to history buffs and those who appreciate design, whimsy, and politics as well. There’s a whole lot more to it than simply buying a stamp to mail a letter. Who knows? Visiting the exhibit may just open up a whole new world.
As always, the public is invited to join us at our next Friends meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room or to volunteer some of your time during our events. There are plenty more programs coming up in November, and we can always use an extra hand and some fresh ideas. Think about it!
