Freaky, Fabulous Fries From Pennsauken Eateries

By Rachael Shugars, AAP Columnist

The official discovery of the potato, according to the internet, was by the Incan Indians in Peru. It’s the fourth largest crop in the world. In the early 1500s, Spaniards discovered just how delicious they were and brought them home to cultivate. Then in the late 1500s, Sir Walter Raleigh brought them to Ireland. For those who don’t know Raleigh, he founded the infamous Roanoke Colony and helped popularize tobacco in England.

Santa Visits Burrough-Dover House During Nighttime Holiday Event

A new holiday tradition in our Township began a couple of years ago when historic Burrough-Dover House opened its doors on an evening in December to welcome Santa and the community for a beautiful evening of cheer. Again this year, on Friday evening, Dec. 8, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., Santa will sit before the hearth at Burrough-Dover House to welcome the young ones and their families for a Yuletide chat and a photo opportunity that will be a real Pennsauken keepsake! The historic home will be decked out with greens and tinsel and holiday regalia, while a tree adorned with ornaments stands in the parlor as if waiting for the good children of the 19th Century Dover family to rise on Christmas morning!

Public Works Weekend Leaf Collection, November 18

This Saturday, Nov. 18, Pennsauken’s Department of Public Works will start collecting leaves in the East Pennsauken/Chadwick/Meadowbrook section of town.

For residents in these areas that miss this collection, or for those whose leaves have not yet been picked up, a reminder that leaves that are in cans or bags less than 50 pounds will be picked up by Waste Management on Wednesdays. In addition, Public Works makes two trips in each section of Pennsauken for leaf collection before operations shut down at the end of December.
