The Pennsauken Lions Club has named Matthew McDevitt its 2018 Citizen of the Year. McDevitt was selected from amongst many worthy candidates whose nominations were received by the Club.

Volunteers Needed For USRowing Club Nationals At Cooper River Park

The Camden County Freeholder Board is proud to host the 2018 USRowing Club Nationals from July 11 to 15 at Cooper River Park. Volunteers are needed each day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“We are looking for Camden County residents, Boathouse members, visitors and rowing enthusiasts to help fill various volunteer positions,” said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Parks Department. “We also invite you to come out to watch and support a great regatta.”

The Cooper River’s Olympic-distance, 2,000-meter straightaway is widely known as one of the best rowing venues in the nation, home to numerous world-class regattas and the Cooper River Boathouse. Spanning more than 346-acres through Collingswood, Haddon Township, Pennsauken and Cherry Hill, Cooper River Park has been Camden County’s gathering spot since it was created by the Works Progress Administration in 1936.

Camden County is proud that the Cooper River has emerged as a premier destination for competitive rowing, adding to the diverse family-friendly attractions in our region. Cooper River Park was named a Great Place in New Jersey by the American Planning Association-New Jersey Chapter and continues to be one of the best greenspaces of the Delaware Valley.

Merchantville Classic Car Show Returns On July 14

The Merchantville Classic Car Show returns on Saturday, July 14, after a several-year hiatus. The event, which runs from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., has all the makings a fun-filled action packed day with something for all ages.

The day starts off with the Merchantville Classic Car Show covering the downtown streets of Merchantville along with local and area food vendors and merchants. Next, F.W. Grigg American Legion Post 68, as well as all veterans, will be recognized. From there, various live entertainment begins and will continue throughout the day. There will also be a kids zone, Merchantville’s Off Centre Farmers Market, and more.

Merchantville Celebrates 144th Birthday Today

Join in the fun for opening day of Merchantville Market Off Centre with the Borough of Merchantville’s 144th Birthday Celebration!

Held on Satuday, June 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the event features FREE bounce houses, a magician (sponsored by Merchantville Little League), kids’ races and relays, games and competitions, and arts and crafts! The market will host a variety of local food and craft vendors, with a performance by Buddy Katz at 10:00 a.m. and live music from Heart & Soul.

Merchantville’s American Legion Post 68 will also hold their second annual PTSD Awareness Walk at 11:00 a.m. and will be represented by numerous service organizations next to Eclipse Brewing.

Veterans PTSD Awareness Walk Held On June 2

American Legion F.W. Grigg Post 68 is sponsoring a PTSD Awareness Walk on Saturday, June 2. The public is invited to join local veterans as they walk the Merchantville Pike Path to bring awareness to this epidemic.

Nationally, communities everywhere are losing 22 veterans a day to suicide. Let the healing and understanding begin through the neighborhood walk.

The walk is held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet in the parking lot across from the Merchantville Firehouse, 22 E. Park Ave., next to Eclipse Brewery. The event is free, no registration required. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Fallen Soldiers Remembered At Local Memorial Day Events

Auditions Held For “Mary Poppins Junior” May 15-16

Auditions for the Pennsauken Youth Action Committee’s performance of “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Jr.” will be held on Tuesday, May 15, and Wednesday, May 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Howard M. Phifer Middle School, 8201 Park Ave., Pennsauken. Adapted for children ages 7 to 14, “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Jr.” is based on the popular Disney-inspired Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations.
