Lacas Coffee, in conjunction with National Energy Partners, present “Flip the Switch” on Tuesday, May 14, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at 7950 National Hwy in Pennsauken. The event will include a happy hour themed picnic to commemorate the launch of Lacas Coffee’s solar energy system, and their commitment to renewable energy.
“Flip the Switch” will feature a full-size energy switch to commemorate the launch of Lacas Coffee’s solar energy initiative, and the moment that the company will begin to power its operations from the sun. “Since 1921, Lacas Coffee has built its brand upon quality products that are sourced responsibly through fair-trade practices. How we source energy to power our operations deserve equal consideration,” says Jonathan Del Re, CEO of Lacas Coffee.
The solar energy system includes 812 modules mounted on the roof of Lacas Coffee’s state-of-the-art facility in Pennsauken New Jersey. The system is projected to produce approximately 388,800-kilowatt hours of electricity each year – enough energy to meet nearly 100 percent of Lacas Coffee’s energy needs. “Lacas Coffee’s adoption of solar energy will have an environmental impact that is worth celebrating,” says Jeremy Conner, CEO of National Energy Partners, the solar development firm that is managing the solar project.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the solar energy produced by Lacas Coffee through the life of their solar system will eliminate greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 6,874 metric tons of carbon dioxide – that has the impact of 2,397 tons of waste being recycled instead of landfilled. The reduction of C02 emissions is equivalent to 7,514,297 pounds of coal burned, or 773,434 gallons of gasoline consumed. Lacas Coffee’s adoption of solar energy will have the same impact as growing 113,655 tree seedlings for ten years.
“Flip the Switch” will include informative presentations that document the environmental impact of solar energy, along with financial incentives available for both home and business owners. Special guests and entertainment will accompany a picnic-style buffet and cocktails.
A rain date for the event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21. The event is open to home and business owners that are interested in learning more about solar energy.
