Love Is Sweet In February With Friends Of The Library’s Cookie Sale
By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library
Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it. And in addition to a classic candy heart filled with chocolates or a bouquet of flowers, have you considered giving that special someone a delicious assortment of cookies? Well, the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library have; and we’ve made it easy for you.
The Friends’ before-the-big-day annual cookie sale takes place Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., or sooner if supplies run out. We’ll have bags and bags of all the favorites: fancy sugar cookies, snickerdoodles, chocolate chips, and lots more. We never know the extent of our bakers’ creativity, so you’ll have to come see for yourself. Each bag is just $1 and all proceeds go to help the Library. And if you’re a member of the Friends of the Library, show your membership card and receive a free bag. How sweet is that?
Munch And A Movie On February 20
Remember that we’ve changed our Munch and a Movie to the third Tuesday in each month, so our next feature will be shown on Tuesday, Feb. 20, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Library Community Room. We aren’t allowed to disclose the name of the film, but if you can’t wait to be surprised, call the circulation desk to find out. Bring your lunch and we’ll supply tea, coffee, water, and snacks. Bring a friend or come alone and meet some new ones.
New Items In The Children’s Department
We’re proud to announce that the Friends have recently provided the money for the Children’s Department to purchase a wonderful assortment of brand new and very exciting items. First, there’s the Krayon Kiosk, a welcome and very colorful new addition that looks like a giant crayon and includes stations for two iPads that children can use under supervision to watch videos and play games that are a fun and entertaining way to enhance reading skills, enjoy the Library, and just have fun! The Krayon Kiosk will replace the library’s aging computer learning system. Next, Library staff will be installing a brand new interactive activity center, accompanied by a button maker kit, a manual activity overseen by Children’s Department staff. We’re told it’s one of the hottest new trends libraries now offer to young active members. We’re excited and know the children – and their parents – will be as well.
Mark Your Calendars For March
Looking ahead to next month, we have four new Thursday evening yoga classes lined up for adults beginning March 1 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room. So grab your mat and come out for some muscle-soothing stretches and calming exercise. Successive classes take place March 8, 15, and 22 and are open to all yoga ability levels. So whether you’re a total novice or a seasoned stretcher, you’ll be welcome. Please note that even though this is a four-week course, we have reserved the room for a fifth week just in case there’s a pesky snow or storm closure we have to make up. Namaste.
There’s also a fantastic accordion concert scheduled for Saturday, March 10, but we’ll share more details on that next month.
So, as usual, lots of activities coming up at the Library you won’t want to miss. We truly want to thank everyone who participates in our fundraising activities. Without your help, we truly wouldn’t be able to provide so many wonderful additions and events that make our Pennsauken Library the great place it is.
Our next Friends meeting takes place Feb. 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. We’d love to see you there!
