The Pennsauken Lions Club has named Matthew McDevitt its 2018 Citizen of the Year. McDevitt was selected from amongst many worthy candidates whose nominations were received by the Club.
McDevitt is a graduate of Camden Catholic High School and has been volunteering and working within Pennsauken for many years. He was a member of the Pennsauken Board of Education from 1995-2013, serving as its president three times; chairman of the Security Committee for 12 years; and chief negotiator for teachers, secretaries, administration staff, and the Communication Workers of America.
Matt was appointed to the Pennsauken Housing Authority from 1989-1994 and served as vice president. He also was a member of the Pennsauken Town Watch from 1987-1995, serving as president of the organization for several years.
McDevitt is currently a member of Temple Lutheran Church, where he has been the director of their food pantry since 2010. He has been a member of the church’s council for seven years, serving as treasurer and now president. He also works for the New Jersey Synod ELCA, a group of congregations and individuals walking together in faith to cultivate Christ-centered, generous, resilient, missional communities for the sake of the world.
The Lions will hold a diner in Matt’s honor on Monday, October 1, 2018, tentatively scheduled to be held at the PYAA Field House at Marion and Elm avenues. Dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. Cost for the dinner and other information will be forthcoming.
