Route 130 Lane Closures Required For Intersection Improvements At Union Avenue

New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced the left lane closures on Route 130 approaching the Union Avenue intersection in both directions for several weeks as an intersection improvements project advances in Camden County.

Merchantville Sweet Shop To Move To Pennsauken

The Merchantville Sweet Shop, which opened on Maple Ave. in July of last year is making a move to Pennsauken.

Local officials and members of the community were on hand for the grand opening of the Merchantville Sweet Shop on Maple Ave. in July of 2017. The store plans to close next month and reopen at a new Pennsauken location on Sept. 12.

The ice cream shop will close on Sunday, Aug. 12 and will begin its relocation to 2673 Haddonfield Rd. in Pennsauken, a larger location with more parking.

New Jersey DOT Work To Impact Route 130

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has informed Pennsauken Township of roadwork occurring on Route 130 that will impact traffic conditions.

Repairs To Bridges Over Cooper River Scheduled To Begin Thursday

This week’s heavy rains and wind gusts have delayed the start of structural work on two bridges that pass over the Cooper River. The Freeholder Board’s Department of Public Works anticipates beginning construction on both the Grove St. and Cuthbert Blvd. bridges on July 26. To facilitate the construction, detours will be in place. The exact timing and completion of both projects may be altered by weather and other factors.

The famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile recently took a special trip to town to visit a creative contest winner.

Nutrition Vouchers Available For Senior Citizens

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides low-income seniors in Camden County with coupons that can be exchanged for eligible foods (fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh-cut herbs) at farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs.

Eligibility guidelines based on household size:

  • Individual – $1,832.00 a month or less
  • Couple – $2,470.00 a month or less

Senior citizens must be at least 60 years old and reside in Camden County and show proof of income:  Social Security Statement, pay stubs, EBT Card, Medicaid Card or current income tax return.

PYACT Performs “Mary Poppins Junior” July 27-29

The Pennsauken Youth Action Committee’s performances of “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Jr.” will be held on Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29 at the Pennsauken Intermediate School, 8125 Park Ave.

Adapted for children ages 7 to 14, “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Jr.” is based on the popular Disney-inspired Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations.

Mosquito Commission To Spray In Pennsauken On July 13

The Camden County Mosquito Commission regularly checks several thousand suspected mosquito breeding sites across the county. Spraying is scheduled on an as needed basis based upon the results of their surveillance efforts.

“It is important that you regularly check your yard for the presence of standing water,” said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Mosquito Commission. “Removing standing water where mosquitoes can thrive will protect your family from the pests, and will assist the efforts of the Camden County Mosquito Control Commission.”
