In a video statement released today, Pennsauken Mayor Tim Killion addressed the shooting incident that occurred at a Township sports complex on Saturday evening.
“There was an unauthorized, non-permitted, adult semi-pro football game at Crescent Field, otherwise known as ‘The Pit,’ off of Burwood Ave. It’s important to note that all youth sports fields are owned by Pennsauken Township and managed by our Department of Parks and Recreation. The Township received no formal notice of the game; and our municipal government received no financial benefit,” said Killion. “And while this was a non-PYAA event, it was hosted by the organization, who has been provided regular access to our fields for youth sports activities for over 60 years.”
Killion went on explain that a fight broke out at the end of the game, with an individual firing shots into a crowd. One individual was hit twice; based on a release provided by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
“This behavior at one of our sports fields – or any Township facility for that matter – is totally irresponsible and completely unacceptable. It was taken with a complete disregard for municipal property and the safety of the surrounding Pennsauken community,” said Killion. “Our Township Committee is conducting a full administrative investigation and we will be meeting with the members of the PYAA organization involved in allowing this unauthorized event to happen at our facility. There needs to be complete and total accountability for what happened; and those who made this extreme error in judgement will take responsibility for both their actions and inactions.”
