Pennsauken Historical Society Celebrates Welsh Heritage Day
Amser hir, na gweld! This is how the Welsh greet one another, “long time, no see!” For the seventh year, Pennsauken Historical Society will be hosting Welsh Heritage Day at its Griffith Morgan Homestead. This event celebrating the culture and history of Wales will occur on Sunday, March 5, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Guests of all ages are invited and encouraged to join in the festivities with the docents and volunteers of the Society. We will be joined by friends of our Society as well, who share the same passion for interpreting history and showcasing skills as they were performed under our feet 200 years ago!
Among our special guests we welcome our pirate friends, the Sea Dogs, performing their brilliant brand of sea shanties and preparing to pillage as they evoke the lives of Welsh pirates!
An array of authentic traditional Welsh dishes will be prepared in our beautiful hearth by a skilled and experienced hearth cook. Other exhibits and demonstrations of Welsh culture and history will be presented, along with other special guests performing.
We hope that you can find time to join us as well! You will be glad you did!
Some may have noted a change in the name we use for the colonial home of the Morgan family, from “house” to “homestead.” This change, recommended by our officers and adopted by our membership, better reflects the findings of research into the site, the old house and its founding family. Visit the same beautiful colonial home you remember and learn all the story of this historical research and detective work stretching over many years that led to this change.
Parking at the Griffith Morgan Homestead is always free. Although admission to our events is always free, an event of this caliber can only be successful thanks to donations from our visitors and participants. Volunteer opportunities and memberships are always available between the two properties of the Pennsauken Historical Society.
Pennsauken Historical Society is a member of the Camden County History Alliance, in conjunction with Camden County Historical Society in Camden. Please see CCHSNJ.org for more information about the partnership sites all across Camden County.
