Longtime Delair resident Edward Hill is one of four World War II veterans featured in the premier episode of “Here’s The Story” on PBS.
The documentary takes viewers on a journey across the state of New Jersey, where the “Here’s The Story” met with these remarkable individuals. Their stories not only shed light on the harrowing experiences of war, but also offer a window into their upbringing, shaping the lens through which they experienced one of the most pivotal periods in history.
Born in the Fishtown area of Philadelphia, Edward Hill’s family moved to the Delair section of Pennsauken in 1927. He joined the U.S. Navy after the Battle of Midway and served as an electrician’s mate, 2nd class aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid, a brand new Essex Class Aircraft Carrier which was heavily involved in military campaigns from the Marshall Islands to the Philippines in the Pacific Theatre. Hill also served on the U.S.S. Leary, as well as the U.S.S. Fresno. A longtime member of American Legion F.W. Grigg Post #68, Hill passed away on Oct. 25 at the age of 99, but not before making one last trip to the Intrepid Museum in August.
