Planning Underway For The One Hundredth Celebration Of The Nineteenth Amendment

August 26, 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Organizations and communities throughout the country are preparing to celebrate this important moment in U.S. history.

Pennsauken Township has formed a committee to plan activities that will allow residents to participate in this historic event and is looking for members to help. Presently, the committee has representation from the Township, Girl Scouts, League of Women Voters, Pennsauken Free Public Library, and the Friends of the Library; however, more members are needed to help with planning activities to celebrate this moment and educate the community. The right to vote did not come easily and required the commitment and sacrifice of dedicated women; we need to honor them by telling their story.

The next meeting of the planning committee will be on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 5:30 p.m., at the Pennsauken Municipal Building, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd. For more information, contact Jan at (609) 410-4650 or janwh@aol.com.
