Summertime Luau Benefits Angel Tree Program, Hurricane Relief

The Pennsauken-Merchantville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its fifth annual luau on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Inglesby and Sons Funeral Home, 2426 Cove Rd. For a $20 donation, participants will enjoy food, drinks, and entertainment, all for two very worthy causes: Pennsauken’s Angel Tree program and the Hurricane Maria Relief Fund.

Pennsauken’s Angel Tree program collects new, unwrapped toys for families in need during the holidays. Last year, a record number of Pennsauken families who would have normally gone without were able to put presents under the tree, thanks to generous community and business donations. The annual P.M.A.C. luau unofficially kicks off this special season of giving.

In September 2017, Maria, a Category 4 hurricane, hit Puerto Rico, causing almost irreparable damage to the U.S. territory’s infrastructure, including the destruction of its electrical grid; and the estimated loss of life as a result of the storm may be significantly more than the official death toll. A portion of the funds raised from the luau will go to help those in Puerto Rico most affected by the hurricane.

Since 2013, the P.M.A.C. Luau has raised almost $4,000 to support those in need. This year, the local community is invited to come together at Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home to not only raise funds for families in their local community, but for neighbors living over a thousand miles away.

“We’re extremely excited to help host this year’s fifth annual luau,” says David Hernandez, owner, Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home. “We welcome residents, business owners, elected officials, and community leaders to join us and P.M.A.C. for this fun event that benefits some great causes.”

Attendees are asked to R.S.V.P. to Nancy Ellis at (856) 438-0833 or pmac1team@gmail.com by Aug. 20.
