Trunk Or Treat Event Held On October 30

The Rising Community Fellowship, located at 3465 Haddonfield Rd., Pennsauken, is hosting its first-ever trunk or treat event on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Trunk or treat is when trick-or-treating is done from parked car to parked car, so children can dress up for Halloween and enjoy getting candy in a safe, controlled environment, under close supervision by a parent or guardian.

“This is a great time of year for families; and Halloween makes a lot of us feel like little kids again,” says Charlie Simonka, pastor at The Rising Community Fellowship. “We invite the entire Pennsauken community to come and join us for an event that celebrates a great American tradition.”

Only children ages 14 and under, accompanied by their parents or guardians, will be able to participate in the trunk or treat. Candy is given out from each car’s trunk and the cars are decorated for Halloween.

The Rising has space for about 100 cars in its parking lot. Cars must register online in advance for $5 each. For this $5, each car will be able to bring four children from their household to attend the trunk or treat event. Participating vehicles will be asked to bring enough candy for 400 participants (one per child). Volunteers are also needed to host “Teal Pumpkin Project” trunks for participants with food allergies. These vehicles will be designated with a Teal Pumpkin sign and offer non-foods treats, such as small toys, stickers and crayons.

All funds collected go directly to offsetting the cost of the event and for the purchase of additional candy for trunk or treaters. In addition, prizes will be given out for best decorated car and best costume.

“We really wanted to do something unique as a way to give back to the Pennsauken community,” says Simonka. “We’re hoping that this becomes a tradition that families look forward to each year.”
