Camden County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday
To help Camden County residents protect the environment, the Freeholder Board is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Pennsauken Sanitary Landfill located at 9600 N. River Road. Residents can bring items to the convenient drive-through collection site from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“This program provides one of the easiest and most convenient ways for all Camden County residents to help keep their communities safe and their environment free of dangerous pollutants,” said Freeholder Jeff Nash. “When not properly disposed of, these elements often end up in our waste stream, the ground and our waterways. We provide this program to our residents to simplify the process of disposing these products and to make it as convenient as possible.”
Each year, Camden County’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program keeps over 400,000 pounds of hazardous material from the county waste stream. Camden County residents are asked to keep the environment healthy by bringing oil-based paints, solvents, thinners, pesticides, herbicides, gasoline, kerosene, polishes, photographic chemicals, automotive batteries, antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid, other car products, pool chemicals and cleaning fluids.
Nash said the concept of taking toxic elements out of garages and homes and disposing of them in a safe fashion is a common sense initiative that residents embrace.
“We often buy these products for individual projects, leaving them on the shelf for months or even years after their intended use,” Nash said. “These events now give residents an outlet to get rid of this stuff that would otherwise poison our environment and significantly deteriorate our quality of life.”
