New Jersey Makers Day Weekend At Pennsauken Free Public Library

On March 19, Joylette Hylick, daughter of Katherine Johnson, NASA mathematician and subject of “Hidden Figures,” will be the keynote speaker for the Library’s celebration of New Jersey Makers Day. New Jersey Makers Day (NJMD) is an annual celebration of all things “making” at libraries all throughout the state. From science experiments and computers, to arts and crafts, NJMD aims to connect people from all walks of life through STEM, fun and learning of making and creativity. On Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20, the Pennsauken Free Public Library is hosting a variety of special events and activities.

County To Hold Veteran’s Vaccination Pop-Up Event

The Camden County Office of Veterans Affairs and the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia are teaming up to create a second pop-up vaccination site for approximately 800 South Jersey veterans on Saturday, March 27. Vaccinations will be provided at the Harry Williams Community Center located at the intersection of North Black Horse Pike and Broadway in Runnemede.

Vaccinations will be available by appointment only between 7:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Eligible veterans can call (215) 823-4014 to make an appointment until all available slots have been filled.

PHSAA Holds Virtual Basket Auction For Scholarships

This time last year, the Pennsauken High School Alumni Association (PHSAA) was planning a bowling and basket auction event to raise funds for scholarships for Pennsauken High School graduating seniors. As with so many other events, the fundraiser was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

With donations already in hand and no end in sight to be able to safely hold a large event in person, PHSAA decided to revive the event, but hold it virtually. They have booked an online, virtual basket auction event through 32auctions.com. The PHSAA Bowling for Scholarships event is now PHSAA Bidding for Scholarships!

Pennsauken Resident Gets Personal In Book About Mental Health Journey

M.J. Patterson has written about her journey dealing with bipolar disorder in her first book, “Coloring the World with Broken Crayons.”

“It’s about my lifelong struggle as an African American woman with mental illness,” explained Patterson. “Even though I didn’t know it at the time, I was showing signs of mental illness at the age of eight.”

Pennsauken Township Committee and the town’s municipal staff have arranged to have vaccinations right here in Pennsauken to serve those without access to computers or the internet.

Residents At Pennsauken Senior Residence Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

More than 40 seniors at Lutheran Senior Residence at Pennsauken, an affordable senior housing property, received their first COVID-19 vaccination last week. The Pennsauken site is one of seven affordable senior housing properties owned by Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSMNJ) to offer the vaccine to its residents by partnering with Walgreens and CVS.
