Festive Music, Food Trucks, And Fireworks At Summer Kickoff Bash

By Frank Sinatra, AAP Editor

Great music, good food, and the return of fireworks will be the hallmark of Pennsauken’s upcoming Summer Kickoff Bash. Held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the Pennsauken Community Recreation Complex, located at the corner of Westfield and Bethel avenues, the entire community is invited to take part in this special celebration.

“We received such great feedback from the town’s 125th anniversary celebration last summer that we decided to put together what we hope will be an annual event,” says Pennsauken Mayor Jack Killion. “Our Summer Kickoff Bash will have all the elements for a great party: good food, music that will get you up on your feet, and an impressive fireworks display.”

Several food trucks have committed to provide fare for the Summer Kickoff Bash: local favorite Mama’s Homemade Meatballs, which opened up a brick-and-mortar component to their business here in town; Pop Shop A Go Go, a mobile version of the popular Collingswood restaurant; Philly Goodfellas, selling Italian-style sandwiches and other specialties; Pennsauken-based Dan’s Waffles, serving up tasty sugar waffles, bubble waffles, and other desserts; and Kona Ice, featuring cool treats including shaved ice and ice cream.

There will also be great musical performances. The Verdict is a well-traveled Caribbean band that has jammed with Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder and opened for legends such as Sting and Madonna. Also on stage will be Frontiers, the ultimate Journey tribute band that takes audiences back to the 80’s by performing classics from the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

Finally, an intense fireworks display, similar to the one experienced at last year’s 125th anniversary summer picnic, will cap off an evening filled with fun and entertainment.

“We’re excited to be able to bring what we hope will be a new, annual event for Pennsauken,” says Elwood Martz, Parks and Recreation Department, Pennsauken Township. “We hope that our neighbors come out for Pennsauken’s new official start of summer.”
