Local Community Comes Together To Honor Memorial Day

By Frank Sinatra, AAP Editor

Every May, a variety of meaningful events lead up to Memorial Day, an important remembrance of those brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Wreath Laying Ceremonies

Wreath laying ceremonies in observance of those members of the military who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces will be held throughout Memorial Day Weekend in both Pennsauken and Merchantville. The public is encouraged to attend these events.

On Sunday, May 24, at noon, Pennsauken Township will hold a special ceremony with VFW Post 1270, AMVETs Post 101, and F.W. Grigg American Legion Post 68 at Liberty Park, located at the corner of Westfield and Merchantville avenues. The ceremony features the laying of wreaths by the veterans monument at the park, posting of the colors, the POW/MIA table, performance of patriotic songs by bagpipers, the playing of “Taps,” and more.

“As a grateful community, we come together to remember those brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country,” said Pennsauken Mayor Patrick Olivo. “We invite our residents to join us as we pause to honor their sacrifice, pray for their families, and reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.”

On Monday, May 25, AMVETS Post 101, 519 June Rd., will hold a wreath laying ceremony at 11:00 a.m., both at its post and then at the Delair War Memorial on River Rd., just south of the Betsy Ross Bridge.

Also on Memorial Day, American Legion F.W. Grigg Post 68 will hold its annual service at Wellwood Park, Linden Ave. and Maple Ave., in Merchantville. The ceremony begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial Day Ceremony At Pennsauken High School

The Pennsauken School District invites students, staff, families, and community members to attend a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 26, at 9:30 a.m. in the media center at Pennsauken High School, 800 Hylton Rd. This special program will provide an opportunity for the school community to come together in reflection, gratitude, and remembrance as the nation observes Memorial Day.

Presented by the Pennsauken High School Air Force JROTC Cadets, the ceremony will recognize the courage, dedication, and selfless service of members of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy today. Community members are encouraged to attend and join in this meaningful tribute of remembrance and respect.
