Rowan Paleontologist Gives Special Presentation At Library

On May 12, Dr. Kenneth Lacovara, renowned paleontologist and founding dean of Rowan University’s School of Earth and Environment and director of the Jean and Ric Edelman Fossil Park in Sewell, N.J., is giving a special presentation based on his book, “Why Dinosaurs Matter,” at the Pennsauken Free Public Library, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd.

Dr. Lacovara is known for the discovery of the titanosaurian dinosaur, Dreadnoughtus schrani, the most complete skeleton of a giant titanosaur discovered to date. He is also part of the team that discovered and named the giant sauropod dinosaur, Paralititan stromeri, the first new dinosaur discovery in Egypt since the early 20th Century. His use 3D scanning and printing technology, as well as robotics, presents the science of paleontology in a brand new light.

The presentation, hosted by the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library, begins at 4:00 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room. It is recommended for young adults and up; the program is not geared for children. Light refreshments will be served and autographed copies of Lacovara’s book will be available for $10.
