Swapping LEDs For Luminaries: A Historic Take On The Holidays In Pennsauken

On Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the evening, a holiday tradition returns to historic Burrough-Dover House off Haddonfield Rd. in Pennsauken, when St. Nick himself visits the old house which will be all decked out in holiday finery!

The grounds of the 309-year-old house will be illuminated from the parking lot to the door with glowing luminaria. The Victorian parlor will be dressed in greens and golds and reds from the Christmas tree, with presents and stockings by the fireside as if the Dover family children were nestled all snug in their beds!

Also in the holiday parlor, a small group of carolers, who have adopted the stage name, “The Royal Tannenbombers,” will hold forth with songs of the season and the several holidays we observe at the conclusion of each year. “Deck the Halls” was never more festive or more appropriate! Additionally, the evening in the parlor will include readings of the holiday favorite, “A Visit from St. Nicholas.”

Stepping from the parlor into the kitchen, visitors to Burrough-Dover House will feel the true warmth of the season, with Santa Claus seated on the settle before a glowing fire, ready to meet the kids, both naughty and nice, and hear the holiday wishes of each. Santa has agreed to sit by the fire for a photograph or two with all his favorite young folk, so bring your cell phone or your camera to capture a moment worthy of posting or framing!

Enjoy a holiday cookie, sip some warm cider, and learn a bit of the history of how the holidays were observed in our community in days long past, and start the season off both merry and bright!

Burrough-Dover House is located at 9201 Burrough-Dover Lane, off of Haddonfield Rd. opposite the Wyndam Rd. traffic light.
