By Frank Sinatra, AAP Editor

Alternative rock band Everclear will be performing a free concert at Cooper River Park on Aug. 17.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Because of the inclement weather, this concert has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17.

In the ‘90s, the alternative rock band Everclear made a name for themselves with their raw energy, powerful lyrics, and catchy musical hooks. Coming out of Portland, Ore., the band’s first three albums with Capitol Records, “Sparkle and Fade,” “So Much for the Afterglow,” and “Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile,” found mainstream success; and iconic songs like “Father of Mine” and “Santa Monica,” continues to be heard on the radio today. Everclear founder/lead singer/guitarist/song writer Art Alexakis is bringing the band to Pennsauken, playing a free performance on Saturday, Aug. 17, as part of the Twilight Concert Series at Cooper River Park. During a recent phone interview with All Around Pennsauken, Alexakis reflected on over three decades of performing to fans of all ages.

Pennsauken Native Debuts First Album, “Homemade”

Dennis Crocker’s musical experience has its start in Pennsauken. Growing up in town, he learned violin and trombone in elementary school, moving on to acoustic and electric bass in high school. The member of Pennsauken High School’s Class of 1968 took his show “on the road,” joining the Army and playing in a variety of bands on the bases where he was stationed. After a 21-year career in the military, Crocker became the audio/video technician for the Pennsauken School District, a position he’s held for the past two decades. And while he doesn’t play as frequently anymore, the music never left him, as evident by the release of his first album of music, “Homemade,” which features “highly rhythmic, grooving, swinging, smooth jazz and funk.”
