Township To Close Boat Ramp For Repairs, Changes

Earlier today, Pennsauken Township posted an online announcement that the boat ramp on Derousse Ave. would be closed for repairs beginning Friday, Aug. 12. This move has been prompted in response to concerns voiced by residents about activity occurring there.

“For many years, the Pennsauken Boat Ramp on Derousse Ave. has been open to both residents and visitors to our community, offering an easy and convenient way for those with boats and other watercraft to go out and enjoy the Delaware River,” wrote the Township in an online statement. “However, we have received numerous complaints and concerns from our Pennsauken neighbors regarding certain individuals who are inappropriately taking advantage of and disrespecting this special and unique amenity that we offer.”

Because of issues like vandalism, illegal dumping, and boom cars, the Township will be making the following changes to the boat ramp:

  • Installing No Parking signage, both along Derousse Ave. and at appropriate locations within the Boat Ramp
  • Adding signage that clearly states the rules for the Boat Ramp, as well as citing the ordinance regarding the proper use of the site
  • Restriping of the parking spaces at the Boat Ramp to alleviate previous parking issues
  • Putting up barricades flanking the sides of the Boat Ramp to prevent trespassing onto NJ Transit and Camden City property

“These changes will help to clearly state the proper code of conduct for residents and visitors to the Pennsauken Boat Ramp and allow our police officers to both better enforce the rules and penalize violators,” stated the Township.

The boat ramp will remain closed for approximately two weeks so that work can be completed.
