With six people positively confirmed with the coronavirus in New Jersey, one of whom is currently quarantined in Cherry Hill, Pennsauken officials and first responders are preparing for a potential outbreak locally.
“Earlier this morning, Township administration, as well as public safety and Pennsauken School District officials, had a conference call with Mayor Tim Killion on how to best prepare for a potential outbreak of coronavirus in our specific community,” Pennsauken Township said in a social media post. “As plans continue to be put into place, we’ll be sharing this news with our residents and business owners.”
In a letter written by Dr. Ronnie Tarchichi, superintendent of Pennsauken Public Schools, a contingency plan, prompted by the State of New Jersey Department of Education, is being put into place in the event school needs to be closed.
“In accordance with this directive, your child’s teachers will prepare plans in case of a closure for a two-week period,” wrote Tarchichi in a letter being sent home to school families later today. “Our goal in Pennsauken Public Schools is to protect your children, to educate your children, and to minimally disrupt your lives with this unfortunate situation.”
Township and School officials will be continually communicating actions being taken in regards to this issue in the days ahead. All Around Pennsauken will be sharing these notifications as they are made available.
