Bobby DiPascale, who has served countless customers both in front of and behind the deli counter of Meadowbrook Food Center for decades, is calling it a career, after creating a legacy of great customer service, quality cuts of butchered meat and deli products, and amazing sandwiches that draw people from all over.
“It’s been overwhelming,” said Bobby on his last day at the “office,” grateful for all the hugs and well wishes from coworkers and customers alike.
Back in 1959, DiPascale’s father brought the beloved family store, which everyone knows today as Meadowbrook Food Center, from the heart of the iconic Italian Market to Union Ave. in Pennsauken, beginning what would be a Township institution. And Bobby has been a part of it all since he was 12 years old.

“My dad would pick me up and say, ‘Let’s go, we have to get to the store, we’ve got to work,’” said DiPascale.
In those days, he started out sweeping the floors, stocking shelves, and bagging groceries. Years later, Bobby, along with his brother, Stephen, took over the family business in 2000, building the brand into a go-to destination for hoagies, hot sandwiches, and other prepared foods.
“We went all over South Philly and bought sandwiches from all over to see what we liked,” explained Bobby. “We brought that back and it grew from there.”
For years, customers have enjoyed classic hoagies, award winning steak sandwiches, as well as unique creations like “The Kitchen Sink,” “Veggie Lover’s Dream,” and “Cataldi’s Tuna,” a favorite of former 94 WIP morning show host Angelo Cataldi. And while Meadowbrook has changed hands several times, Bobby’s been there for every moment. All good things must come to an end, but don’t worry, the deli counter and store are in very good hands.
“I have nothing but praise for everybody here,” said Bobby.
DiPascale shared that he “won’t be a ghost.” In fact, you’ll find him hitting the links at the Pennsauken Country Club. You might also see him at his favorite store, albeit this time as a customer.
“I want to thank the whole community because they’ve been great to me my whole life,” said Bobby. “It’s been a blessing.”
