In January, Cub Scouts Pack 116 held its annual Pinewood Derby. The boys, with the help of an adult, shape a 5” block of wood into a car design of his choosing, weight it to 5 ounces, and race it down a 55’ aluminum track.

Timed to the ten-thousandth of a second, the top six finishers represent the Pack at the District Pinewood Derby. Congratulations to Tiger Harrison Gregg, first place; Bear Julian Marmolejos, second place; Webelo Nelson Mejias, third place; Webelo Diangelo Vasquez, fourth place; Lion Joshua Kaufman, fifth place; and Wolf Joshua Williams, sixth place.

Best of Show was awarded to Dominic Wiand for “Nanielle,” a car named after his aunt, who died in a tragic car accident last year. He dedicated his race and car to her and shared some wonderful memories of her during the event.

The Cub Scouts also decorated cakes using a LEGO theme; the winner for best decorated cake was Elijah Johnson.

Blue And Gold Banquet

Pennsauken Police Officers Craig Adair and Joe Hurley gave a demonstration with K9s Maverick and Arko during Cub Scouts Pack 116’s Blue and Gold Banquet.

The Pack also held its annual Blue and Gold banquet, an event that celebrates the Pack’s anniversary; thanks leaders and other adults who have helped the Pack; and inspires the leaders, Scouts, and parents. This year, Pack 116 was lucky to welcome Pennsauken Police Officers Craig Adair and Joe Hurley, who brought K9s Maverick and Arko. They performed a wonderful demonstration for those in attendance.

Upcoming Spring Activities

It’s been a busy 2018 for Pack 116; and it looks to be an even busier spring!

On Saturday, April 7, the Scouts will participate in the Ten Commandments Hike in Moorestown, a unique and exciting way to embrace the concept of religious tolerance, learn local history, participate in community service, and have fun. Participants hike to different houses of worship, and learn about one of the Commandments at each stop. Scouts earn a patch for completing the hike.

On April 14, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, there will be a “Rocket into Scouting” event at Pine Hill Scout Reservation in Pine Hill, N.J. Non-Scouting friends and siblings are welcome to participate. The cost is $6 per child to cover the cost of the rocket; adults are free.

There is also a district-wide fishing derby at Haddon Lake on Saturday April 21, filled with lots of fun and prizes.

On May 18-20 the District will hold its annual “Cuboree” camping trip at Pine Hill Scout Reservation. The theme for the pack is “Indiana Jones.”

It’s never too late to join the Pack! If you would like more information, e-mail cspack3116@gmail.com. Spring and summer activities are great ways to get “your feet wet” and learn about the program in a fun atmosphere.
