Mrs. Hardy’s Class Having An Extraordinary Year

Carson2Mrs. Hardy’s class at Carson Elementary School was very busy learning and exploring concepts in science, reading and writing.

In science, students concluded a unit on matter! They completed hands on activities for buoyancy, surface tension, and properties of matter.

In reading, students were very enthusiastic and enjoyed the small group discussions during our guided reading groups.

For writing, students learned how to summarize. They used figurative language, added interesting words, practiced writing an opinion piece, and organized stories with a beginning, middle and end.

Students worked hard on becoming superb writers. Their collaborative efforts promoted discussion and critical thinking.

Great job everyone!

It has been such a great experience and students are looking forward to writing many more letters this year!

Carson Students Excited To Watch Things Grow

CarsonESLMrs. Davis, ESL teacher at Carson Elementary, reports that the first grade English Language Learners explored how things around us change and grow. They were all thrilled to see that little tiny seeds could grow to be big green plants.

By reading “The Tiny Seed,” by Eric Carle, the first graders learned that some seeds don’t get the chance to grow into beautiful plants. Students also discovered that they could do their part to help nature, by being careful where they step and by not hurting bees and butterflies so that plants can grow and make the environment BEAUTIFUL!
